Our supervision services are closely connected with scientific evaluation research. We investigate which changes emerge in everyday school life, how they come about, and how supervision can be further developed. This enables us to connect research findings with the concrete experiences of teachers, school leaders, and schools.
Investigating Effectiveness and Improving Quality
Our evaluation research has two aims. First, we seek to investigate transparently whether group-analytic supervision brings about changes and in which areas. Second, we want to better understand the processes that are particularly important. The findings help us align supervision with schools’ actual needs and continually improve its quality.
Depending on the project, we use scientifically developed questionnaires and other forms of data collection. Our interests include teachers’ confidence in their professional practice, their ways of dealing with difficult emotions and conflicts, and the development of social relationships within classrooms and staff teams.
What Our Findings Show So Far
Using the specially developed Teacher-ProGRESS questionnaire, we have investigated how different aspects of educational practice relate to students’ behavior. Our analyses to date show that talking about difficult feelings is associated with a decrease in externalizing behavior over the course of a school year. By contrast, the authority that students attribute to their teacher is associated with how effectively difficult behavior can be contained in a specific situation.
These findings underline a central idea of our approach: educational practice requires both clear leadership and the ability to recognize emotional and social processes and work through them together.
